MESSAGE from David Billings, President
After considerable thinking since last fall I have decided to step down as the Association President.
It was with great honor that I took the position originally over 20 years ago when Gene Keene and Rick Melanson approached me to be the president to replace Mike Verrill. It has been a long ride.
I have met some great coaches and people along the way. Some of the things that we were involved with since I took over was expanding the Senior All Star Games from 1 to 2 games to get more players the exposure and recognition that they deserved. We also helped out with the Underclass Showcase, the underclass games, scholarships, a website and coach’s clinics.
I would be remiss to not mention the countless hours that I have spent with 2 coaching friends that I have a lot of respect for in Elaine Derosby of EL and Tom Griffin of Scarborough. I would like to believe that I am leaving the office better off now than when I took it over so long ago.
After talking with several coaches I have asked Danica Gleason to take over as President of the Association and she has accepted. I believe she has what it take to go to the next level. I still will be involved with coaching at Noble as Rick Melanson’s Volunteer Coach. I hope to see many of you on the field.
Yours in softball,
David Billings
